New member, first post.
I have a 2001 50HP Merc outboard on a starcraft boat. I need to replace the remote trim switch, but cannot see how to remove the switch and or the handle. Searched on the forum and the web, but not much luck. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, the switch works on the motor, but not on the remote. Thanks

Re: Remote trim switch removal/replacement

I have an a late 80s 60 hp 2S and its just a matter of removing a screw on plate on the throttle handle and gaining access to the switch, which is easily removed. However I did cut the wires. The switch when removed could be accessed internally by bending two lugs aside and cleaning the contacts inside and then easily reassembled and the lugs rebent. It seemed just designed to be stripped and cleaned, much cheaper than buying a replacement!

Mine just had a little corrosion on the contacts, not bad for 22 years.

What I have just described is of course an old unit and yours might be very different but I am sure with a little thought can be accessed.

Good luck and enjoy the holiday from a snowy England

Thanks for the reply Davj, but mine is different. No plate on the handle assembly. It's got me baffled.
