I am in need of a new alternator.
Current one is a Mando 817119-2.

Any suggetsions on where to purchase?

I see them on eBay anywhere from $70 to $159.

Also, the one I have is 55 amps.
Should I get a higher current one? Maybe 100A?

Ayuh,... Hi Tony,...
Do you ever have an issue with the batteries Not charging up, during normal outings..??
I mean other than now that the alterator is dead....
If not,... Why upgrade,..??

Unless you're Using more than 55amps, it's really unnecessary...

Unless you have a fridge or trolling motors on your boat, there really isn't any need to go higher.

And that is only operated for minutes at a time and usually done with the engine on. I assume you have your engine on when you pull up your anchor right? So I wouldn't worry. If you put on a bigger alternator, you really should replace the wire between it and the batteries so with the same size alternator, you wouldn't have to change it.

The people that need the bigger alternator are people that have heavy hitters or run a lot of items with the engine off while anchored and deep battery banks that need to get charged up in a short time. If you anchor overnight and have a lot of lights on and you feel that you are going to get your batteries discharged deeply then maybe you could benefit from it.
