Is the color-coding for outboard engine wiring harnesses standard? Im putting an early 90's Merc 70hp on my boat in place of the underpowered 1989 50hp Force. I have the complete harnesses for both motors, and they seem to have exactly the same colored wires. Im trying to NOT have to rip out the old and install the new. Im very impressed with all the technical questions you guys answer....so whaddaya think? ( if i gotta buy a manual for the wiring diagram, i'll just swap the whole harness), but much easier not to. I know you can get Force parts from Merc...didnt Merc buy 'em out? Thanks.

Re: force-to-merc swap

The wiring color code was standardized in the late 70's.
It's the same on all newer boats.
Mercury bought out Force in the early 90's.Then stopped production in 99.
They still have a lot of Force parts through Merc.J
