I had a 1967 1100 SS I sold a buddy. And now the shift shaft is broken he wants to pay me to fix it.

My question is do i have to pull the powerhead to remove the shift shaft?

It looks like from pictures of a new one there is a roll pin in the top connect that i can pull and drop rod out of the bottom and put a hard to find new one.

I am not looking at the motor (not here) to see the roll pin or not.

I pulled the foot and the rod is broke.

drop the lower unit. then drive out the roll pin in top of shift shaft ( carefully not to break anything) then push out the shift shaft . reinstall is nice to have a buddy to eye it up and align the roll pin holes. it helps to remove the lower carb.
