40 turned 60

ive heard that i can take my merc 40 hp and put 60hp carbs on her and i get more power. is that all i need to do is swap the carbs?

No ..the 3 cylinder 40 & 50 share the same block (59ci) and you can turn it into a 50 with carb change. The 60 is also 59ci but has different porting. If it the 2 or 4 cyl 40hp series answer is still no.

i heard a rumor that all i had to do was swap the restriction plate thats behind the carbs and ive got a 60. i thought that the carbs would have to be swapped. or at least the jets changed.

I suggest you forget the rumours and read what was written, these 'rumours" have been going around for years. Plenty have stried swapping carbs on all sorts of motors, and all they end up with is a poor running maotor that has a mixture of parts on it forever.

Thats true on a 4 stroke engine but only on turning a 30 to a 40.
