OMC 4.3 & 3.0

I'm very new to the "Marine" world so I appologize for what may seem to be a dumb question.<br /><br />Will a [3.0 omc cobra outdrive] work on a [4.3 omc cobra outdrive] setup? What is the difference? If I had to guess I would say they are geared differently.<br /><br />(If you need to know about ford trucks and diesel engines I can probably help there. But this I am just getting my feet wet with. No pun intended)

Yep,<br />3.0l Should be about 1.98/1 ratio....<br />And, the 4.3l Should be about a 1.85/1 ratio........

The reason I ask is that I have access to a used outdrive off of a 3.0. Can I use it on the 4.3 and if so what will be the results? can i rectify with a different pitched prop? (sorry I'm a poor college kid trying to get an old boat back on the water)

You Might Possibly find a Prop Big enough to make up the difference...........
