I made my first couple of posts in the general forum looking for information (ANY information) on "Mohawk" boats. I have, and have started rehabbing or restoring my dad's "vintage" 14' aluminum covered-bow Mohawk "Royal" boat. It may be 50 or more years old and dad was gonna sell it for scrap. Until mid-October it had been unmoved in my parents' back yard (Canal Winchester, OH) since 1970 or before.....so I trailered it and IT'S trailer some 1800 miles from central OH to here (SE Arizona) last month.

So far, I've started removing the rusted and corroded screws, bolts, nuts, etc and cleaning the aluminum. The transom was rotted and I've been able to start on the aft part and working my way forward.... my big learning experinece was looking up posts here on removing rivets... :p

There are a lot of aluminum boats on here that have been or are being fixed up. The Starcraft forum has a ton of restoration threads on aluminum boats. You could read non-stop for weeks.

It's funny, I'm doing rivets also right now. For removing solid rivets, I have found a chisel and a punch works well. I have been chiseling off the inside "bucked" end of the rivet and then driving them out with a small flat punch.
