92' Johnson 25 hp stuck in forward

Lower unit is off motor and is stuck in forward gear. I had removed the small pivot pin on the clutch dog lever which started this whole thing. Got it back into place but it still is stuck. When you pull up down on the linkage it doesn't help or move much....any ideas? I think it has to do with the clutch dog lever pin I removed.. is it possible not to get it back into place correctly?

I guess you have put the pin back without it going through the hole in the shift lever.

You will have to remove it again and fiddle around with a suitable implement until you have managed to get the hole in the shift lever back in line with the hole in the gearcase then pop the pin back in.

If you cant you have bit of a dismantling job ahead of you.
