Hi there. Well first off this is my first boat i will attempt to restore. Its a 1972 Duo Rounder 15' trihull. I have no motor (as of right now) but i believe i have a solid base for a nice project. So please any kind of help would be amazing, because im sure ill have a ton of questions. Ive done a lot of research on here and have found out so much helpful info from the guys here on the forum, which has inspired me to begin my rebuild and start a new thread. Here are some pics of her assembled. ive already started tearing into the floor, stingers, and transom because they were all rotted and will post those pictures soon.

Still dont know how to post these pictures the right way. But, below is some damage on the hull. How do i go about fixing this? Will a pb mixture work here? There is some fiberglass damage there but it does not leak or anything.

Well i found a soft spot in the floor near the transom. so i decided to take the cap off the transom and take a look. It was totally rotted. And if I am going to redo the transom and deck, Im gonna go all out and do the stringers too anyways.

So I began to take the cap off by removing the rub rail and drilling out all of those darn rivets, which seemed like it would never end!

With a little help the cap popped right off

All that brown stuff inside the hull is glue the previous owner used to glue the carpet down, which is going to be a pain in the you know what to grind off. As if i dont already have enough griding in my future...

Welcome to iBoats!
Looks like you've got a good start. That hull damage will need to be repaired with glass. Once you get the hull cleaned out you might find it needs to be repaired from inside as well. We will all be here to help you all along the way. Make sure to get a good respirator for all the grinding and goggles too! A tyvek suit would be a good investment as well.

Don't forget the Beer!

I'm just sayin...:D

thanks for the replies guys. so i have already dug into the transom, floor, and stringers. And ive got some photos. The transom was horrible. The wood was soaked for the most part and once i got near the bottom i had the worst time trying to get all the wet splintered wood out. It seemed like i'd be hammering and chiseling forever.

From absorbing so much water, the wood in the transom swelled leaving the transom skin a little bowed. i can push it in to where it needs to be but its pretty solid. with some good clamping i think she'll be straight again. Will this have any effect on the original shape of the hull or anything? and is this normal? I dont know if u can see it too well from this picture.

I began taking the deck out in pieces. The back couple feet were soaked, while the front was still solid. There was foam on each side of the stingers and it was soaked all the way through. The worst part of this project so far was removing and getting rid of all that wet foam. since it was in the original design, ill probably end up putting foam back in but ill make sure its more watertight.

i just threw all the wet foam in the middle of the boat as i was removing it and used a shovel to get it all into garbage bags.

Heres a view of the awesome stringer job from the factory. It didnt take much to pull that roving out of there. i pulled most of the pieces out whole by hand, while a piece or two gave me trouble which ill have to grind. The stringers are 1x6's which seemed a little small to me but what do i know. would it be ok to jus replace with 1x6's as well? they also went along the curvature of the hull near the front. will it be hard trying to get this shape from the sringers when its time to replace?

That was clearly and amazingly well built boat from the factory  :p Nice work on the tear out. I'd make my stringers from marine or exterior plywood. Much stronger than dimensional.

Way to tear right into it! Although I see you're in PA.......pretty soon the cold is going to slow us both down a bit.

Oh yea she was built pretty sturdy  haha. I don't know what to do about those stingers yet. I've still got a lot of grinding ahead of me so I have time to figure it out. I've already started grinding and that's about as far as i am on the project so far. I'll post the pics soon. The weather here is just starting to get bad but it's been good the last couple weeks. Ive been working on it outside but I will be getting It in the garage soon for the winter. The only reason it's not in there right now is because my brother has been 'attempting' to prep and paint a car for the past couple weeks.

Well here's the pictures of the work at this point in time. Ive got both sringers out, which put up a fight about it too. One came out in pieces, but atleast in pieces i can put together to make a template out of. But the other was bonded to the hull very tightly and came out in a million splintering pieces. I also got right to grinding with my new dewalt grinder and started on the starboard side of the hull as well as the transom skin. ive got a long way of grinding to go...
