i just bought my first boat with the info that the motor needed an impeller, its an evinrude 60 hp, 1991....i paid a shop to fix the problem but 5 minutes into my maiden voyage the motor started to sputter and i noticed the pee hole was no longer spitting and the motor died..it was steaming it was so hot. i fished for a couple of hours at which time the motor started and i idled in to the dock! ( no i didnt catch anything and i blame the boat hehe),is there anything i can do short of spending another 200 bucks? thanx in advance

Steaming motor.. that can't be good.

I would start with the thermostat. Pick yourself up a good shop manual for that motor and go from there.

Must make sure that the pee hole as you call it is not blocked. Take a a plastic tube such as is fitted to an aerosol lub can and poke it up the hole.
This in itself will not cure your overheat but it will tell you if the pump is pumping or not. If still no water then the pump is not pumping or the water tube is not hooked up correctly or the seal around the tube is not good or there is a blockage in the tube, pump intake,or Block.
Hope this is helpfull.

I had the same thing happen this summer. It turned out to be the thermostat. It was a quick inexpensive fix. Do yourself a favor, fix it now.
