Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any answers to my questions.
Just got a boat from my grandfather that he bought used in 1969.
It is a crownline boat with a johnson 35 sea horse on it . The model is RD19 and
ser# 1586398. I think the engine is a 57 or 58 but not sure on the boat. I can't
find a tag or anything on the boat ? The boat and engine are in nice shape and have been stored in a building . The engine has not been ran in 30 years but is not locked up. The rope will pull but not as easy as it should. Everything under
the cover looks like new . Would like to know what I need to do to the engine before trying to start it and what are the things that may need to be replaced. Also if anyone may direct me on how to find out what year the boat is ? If I need to and if I can figure out how to I can post pictures if need be. Again
thanks--- Jeff

Congrats on your new boat!

Awakening a sleeping outboard is a good place to start to get that motor running. Post some pics please. It may help identify the year of your boat.
Good luck and enjoy!

Re: All New Boat To Me !!

Read the top secret post at the top of this forum about awakening a sleeping outboard. You will need to do all of it on an engine that has not run in awhile.

As for the boat, no idea on how to get the age. You could try a post in the boat restoration section.

I have the parts manual for the RD-19 if you want it. If yes, PM me your email address and request. And an RD-19 is a '57 unless it's an RD-19c I believe.

Post pictures. We all like picture!

The coils under the flywheel will need replacing as these were the weak point of the motor new Coils are readily available. Also the impeller(water pump) will need replacing. Also readily available. If your mechanically inclined these motors are simple and rugged. You should have a factory service manual.Reprint factory manuals are available here at iboats.
