1987 omc side mount control

I have a 87 70hp johnson with an omc side mount control. control is set up for right hand operation, i want to make it a left hand control. It appears as if it can be done but have no experience. Any info would be great...Thanks

If it's anything like all the other OMC control boxes I've seen and had apart I can't really imagine how you'd modify it for left hand operation. Not saying I'm the final word, but IMHO it's gonna' be tough. If you absolutely must have a left hand control box my guess is that you're going to have to find an aftermarket unit, and that's going to cost.

Have seen them mounted on left with cables forward, pulling to throttle up.

I've seen them mounted on the port side of the boat. The box should so be built so you can transfer the handle and related parts to the other side. You'll also have to move the kill switch. This way the control cables will remain coming out the back. Look closely at it and I'm sure you'll figure it out.
