Hi, my brother hooked up my h20 to a 12v battery and the power cable smoked and melted. I put AA in and still no power. I tried resetting with the AA's in and still nothing. Is my h20 fried? If not the h2o is discontinued, can I still get another power cable? 1st time to this site/forum. By far the best I've seen!

Re: Is Lowrance H20 fried?

Welcome to the fourm.

The H20 runs on about 3.0 volts DC. Lowrance's power cable has a voltage regulator in it.
If he did not use a power cable with a voltage regulator then it time to buy a new one.

From the Ifinder H2O manual.

Input power:......................3 volts DC (two 1.5v AA batteries); operates up
to 12 hours on batteries when using one-second
position updates (longer update rates further
extend battery life, but will reduce GPS accuracy).
Cigarette lighter power adapter included.

WARNING:
Do not remove the cigarette lighter adapter and splice
the exposed wires directly to a 12-volt power system. The
cigarette lighter adapter contains in the plug a protective
fuse and a voltage regulator to convert 12 volts
down to about 3 volts. Without this regulator, connecting
your unit to a 12-volt power source will destroy the unit.
This damage will not be covered by your warranty.

Yup -- it won't work 4 times better on 12 volts. It won't work at all -- ever again.
