I have a 1993 J115TLEIE.
When im cranking the engine the tach will read, but will not read when key is in the run position.
Any insights?
Btw I havent started diagnosing yet so im looking for a good place to start.

Check for 12V at the tach with the key on. Someone may have tapped the wrong wire to power it.

Ok, so west marine has crap for manuals in stock!!!
I checked the 12v connections at the tach and all seem to be ok.
i was wondering if there was a certain way to check the pulses at the motor with a dmm or something.
checked all the rectifier stuff got 15+ volts at 2500 rpm (checked with induction tach) but Idont know what the pulse readings should be or if I can even check that.

What you really need to check this out is a dva or cd77 peak reading volt meter and an OEM service manual. The manual gives very good step by step trouble shooting procedures. If you could find someone that had a tach laying around you may want to swap it out and see what happens.
