Thanks Guys for all the help I need to know if instead of useing the water pump gasket can I use permitex, I would not be able to get the gasket on time for a crabbing trip. or do I have to use the gasket

I'd use a gasket so you can use the proper amount of torque and not change the clearances. If you have to you can purchase gasket material and cut your own.

Because of the critical nature of that gasket, I would not use Permatex in place of it.

Like capri said, buy some gasker paper and make one--it is not difficult, maybe 5-10 minutes time, tops.

I did that last summer. Just could not get the gasket, and bought the gray gasket sheet from local auto parts store. Traced and cut out with an Exacto knife. Took all of 20 minutes, and it was the right thickness. Worked fine.
