I have a 2001 40hp Mercury 2stroke. It has sat for about 6 months and now will only run if being choked. I have replaced the mechanical fuel pump and all of the fuel and injection lines. I have also removed and cleaned the carb. I don't know where to look next?:(

Carb is still an issue, it's not cleaned enough to run off choke.

The carb is spotless, as is the needle and seat, which is set and functioning fine static.

Also the motor only has about 150 hours on it total. If compression was the issue, it wouldn't run with the choke on either.

The carb is not spotless, go through it again.

Trust me, having to choke the motor is compensation for what the motor isn't getting - fuel, it were working properly you wouldn't have to choke it.

Thank you BKtheKing for making me rethink my steps. I did clean the carb but missed the jet inside the bowl that is accessable behind the drain plug. It is now unclogged and problem solved! Happy boating!
