1977 25 horse starter ?

Hello new to the forum.

I have a 25r77h johnson that I am adding a starter to, I am getting the starter and solenoid from a 1972 johnson.

I mounted the starter from on the 77 and had to put a spacer between the starter and starter mount so it would be able to engage the flywheel properly. I bought a new switch and have been trying to hook it up but cant seem to get it to fire. The way it is hooked up now is S terminal on the switch to S terminal on the solenoid, B terminal on switch to bigger terminal on solenoid that also has cable from battery. The I terminal on solenoid to ground, and last large terminal on solenoid to starter. I am planning on hooking up nuetral switch, but wondering how make it fire without.

last but not least I noticed the gear on the starter spins the flywheel the opposite way the pull start does.....
