Hi, I have just been given a 7.5 hp Evinrude outboard (model E8BALCI) which the previous owner could not start. After a spray of Carb cleaner and a clean up of the spark plugs it now starts first pull and idles very smoothly. However, there doesn't appear to be any water coming out of the telltail water jet thing (not sure what it is callled). Should it be coming out straight away or is there a thermostat? I have ordered a manual but not sure when it will arrive. I've also ordered a new impeller which I will replace straight away.

Thanks, Mark

Water should be coming out after the first few seconds. If not, don't run it. There is a thermostat but it doesn't control the entire flow of water.

Thanks for that. I'll change the impeller at the weekend.
Cheers mate!

Check that the tell tale is not blocked before you do anything else

If you do go ahead and change the impeller while you have the lower unit off connect a hose to the water tube to make sure you get a good flow.

Because ... the grommet at the top of the watertube is a PITA and blocks the flow Powerhead off to access it if that's the trouble

Dont ask how I know!
