Hello Everyone. So, I discovered water in the gear oil. I have a 1992 Merc. 4.3LX, Alpha One, Gen II.

I am assuming I have to separate the drive and replace seals etc. (I will first check the o-rings on the drain and vent plus).

Has anyone done this? I looked in my Merc. Service manual and am having problems determining exactly what it is that I have to replace. Any advice?

Re: Water in Gear Oil

There are many different seals on a drive that could leak and cause water in the gear lube. What you have to do is this.
1. Remove the drive from the boat and check the bellows for water.
2. Drain the gear lube from the drive, and do a pressure check to find what is leaking.
