Sorry if I'm in the wrong place, I'm new and not very literate w/ PC. I have a 23' Southern Star CC, 35yrs old but was restored and one heckava offshore boat for Florida. I need to replace center console and would like to build my own. Can anyone help w/plans, ideas for materials, etc. The best for me would be plans that would include a seat/cooler forward, dash for gauges, GPS, fishfinder, radio... and support for my hydraulic steering. My present CC just has toooo many small holes. Any help and/or replies from anyone would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance

Re: Help with building my own center console

Well, I'm designing one now, and I'll be building it out of cored composite panels using epoxy and 12-18 oz biaxial cloth.

I've also seen people make a one-off mold out of MDF and use standard gelcoat/poly to make a box, then join it to another box and fair it to get the look they want.

The simplest method for construction is probably building a box out of 1/2" plywood in the shape you want using resin for glue. Cover it with glass and you're done. Don't worry about screwing it together, you can do that if it makes the build easier but the glass will provide plenty of strength at the end.

Just take the time to draw the shape you want, lay out the gauges, then figure out what shape each side of the box has. Making a cardboard model may help too.
