Ok this may sound like a dumb question but here goes. I have a 1970 135hp (1350) that won't start. I have no 12v to the key side of the stater relay. After doing some testing I find no 12v at the white wire coming out of the switchbox that goes to the key. What does the switchbox do? Can I just jumper from the red lead to the white? Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Switchbox?

The white wire on the switchbox (next to the red wire), is supposed to get +12VDC from the ign switch. it sounds like your ign switch or harness has some problems.

You may jumper the red to white on the switchbox and jumper the solenoid to test for spark.

Re: Switchbox?

The switchbox accepts +12VDC, converts it to a high voltage and stores it in a capaciter. when the trigger in the distributor detects that it is time to fire a spark plug, the stored voltage is dumped into the ign coil to induce a spark.
