I have a '77 engine, 115hp, evinrude. I'd like to repaint it.

Wonder whether most metals on the outside of lower unit are aluminum or other?

If aluminum, I'd use zinc chromate as primer. If other, I'd use prime coat as base.

Which would be best?

It's aluminum and certain shroud pieces located just below the engine cover are plastic.

Yes go with the chromate primer.

It's all aluminum and chromate is the right primer. You can paint with lacquer or auto enamel.
