Every time I go to wire something on the boat there is never the right color wire available at the local stores. Solid color marine grade tinned wire is available online but its usually in large rolls, like 50' or more. I haven't found a source for bi-color wire (solid color with a stripe), especially in small amounts.

Will let you in on my secret for a source of mulit colored wire that is tinned and often marine grade: Clothes Washers. When you see a cloths washer being tossed out, especially older GE models, grab the wire cutters and pull out the harness. Lots of wires, some as long as 8 feet. All different colors, and tinned stranded wire. The older the machine, the better. Especially the ones with lots of setting on the big old style pin dial.

Makes a nice source for small installs, and often the correct marine color code can be found for the type of circuit that is being worked on. Most of the time the wire is 18 gauge or larger.

Plus, its free. :D
