I have a 1989 4.3 Merc. I was having a starting issue which I thought was a vapor lock issue at the end of the season. I finally have gotten some time to work on the engine the other day and when I turned the key, I saw brown water coming from the engine from what looked to be the starter area. What can this be? I am thinking the worst.

Ayuh,... Best case scenario,... The bilge water got high,+ some is still traped in the flywheel cover...
Pull the starter, 'n drain it out...
If that happens to be right, the starter is about Beat anyways...They don't like goin' swimmin'...

Pull the starter, check for water damage. Once it gets wet, it's done.

Also, stick to just 1 posting for the same issue.
