seal ring inside water pump

I took off my water pump and saw it had no seal ring inside it for the drive shaft. My manual shows one.could i perch us one from west marine or is it not supposed to be there. Is water supposed to go up where the drive shaft is. My motor is an 88 evinrude 200 hp.

According to the parts list it is part no 0332000 and is avaialble at $1.25
It should also be included in the pump repair kit.

Are you sure that it is not located in the impeller housing and that you have simply not noticed it.

It just is not there and I am not sure exactly where it would go
