I have a 1988 ProV150, I use the choke to start it and as soon as it is running the choke is off. The boat is used in upstate New york and only in the warmer months, late May through early September.

Re: 87 yamaha 150 pro-v

I have removed the carburetors several times when the engine was running poorly. Mostly to remove water. I have had several issues with water getting though the filter on the side of the engine. This year I installed a water separator filter.

If you use the choke and the engine starts, then when you let the choke off the engine quits you may have a fuel blockage some where.

There are several master mechanics in this forum, hopefully you can get one of them to respond.
