Finally got my old 72' 9.8 to run today. :)

This is the first time I've fogged an engine.

I went to fog it to store it back away and was shocked to find it only took a small squirt of maybe a second to have the motor die out.

Is this long enough to get enough oil in there?

I noticed if I just give it short busts it will sputter and come back is this the way I should be doing it?

Also I think it needs help with the impeller since it barely spits some water out the tell tale every now and then. Besides the number of parts whats the difference between an impeller repair kit and a water pump kit? How will I know which one I need?

Impeller is what actually pumps the water and the water pump kit is all the parts, impeller included to do the complete job.

Thanks and thanks,

Sounds like I need to go w/ the mini pulses then a big squirt. Even with it running on as high an idle it will go in neutral it dies out next to instantly when the spray hits the carb throat.

The pulses got it good and smokey and fwiw I did pull the plugs and did the cylinders.

Plus I just pulled the lower unit off and pulled the water pump apart and think I'll just do the pump rebuild as most of the collar seals are junk and don't come in the impeller kit.
