A 1987 Citation 1900cc failed to reach reserve on ebay and topped out at $700. 3.7l mercruiser 165 hp (sweet - no OMC!) All salt water.
The limited picks show a nicely redone interior, new vinyl, new floor and the gel coat and hardware looked good. The trailer looked mint and was purchased in 2003.
owner states bad exhaust manifold and it has no lower unit. He did install new tank and carburator. I figure this would cost about 1k to fix getting my mits greasy.
So I'm going down there to look at it this weekend to see if its worth the hassle and negotiate a fair price. I'll be checking for water/oil mixture in the engine, cylander compression, gimble grind, blisters, stress cracks and/or repairs on hull, rot in the stringers and transom and give the electrical and remaining mechanical a once over. I want to know what I'm getting into with eyes wide open.
NADA says this boat has average worth $2500 with no trailer in perfect but used condition. I figure the trailer is worth about 1k used so this is a wash for replacing the manifold and lower unit. Assuming tires, rollers, bearings, winch are good to perfect.
boat has been idle for 9 mnths
here are some guesses:
if everything is snug and looking good $2.5k would be tops.
if motor needs minor work only such as new gaskets, hoses etc. $2k
if motor is toast $1.5K
if transom or stringers are rotted but motor and drive decent $1.5K
if this is a true project boat $1K
I don't want to be a prick on cost nor do I want to be fleeced.
What price would you buy this for under these conditions?
