1988 open bow sunbird I/O need help

I'm very new to boating. I purchased this boat from someone and they said they would mail me the manuals and paperwork on the boat. I'm not sure what kind of engine I have but I need to find out so I can do the repairs needed. The issues I'm having; the engine had a broken belt, I took the belt to a car parts store had it measured and bought a belt of the same size, BUT I have no idea how it goes on. The outboard engine is leaking what I beleive to be gear oil. I need to know how to repair that too. I'm looking for a repair manual, however I have no idea what type of engine I have or how to even figure out what type of engine it is. All I know is it says OMC an GM everywhere, but nothing else taht would help me to figure out what type of manual I need or questions to ask to fix it myself. Any help would be appreciated.

Well you really need the manual before anyone can really help, but pictures might get you started.................

Sunbird's came with an OMC Cobra drive. You can find the original shop manuels on ebay. Get an OMC shop manuel, not Seloc or Clymer. I guess you couldn't take it for a test run with the broken belt, etc., which is a big mistake when buying a boat, but it's too late now. Good luck with it.

OMC Cobra.I think the 130hp.
The drive on that motor is tricky.Be very careful to read ANY manual on this motor/drive.
Putting the belt on I can't help with.The drive I can.
Lower the drive.Try to locate the oil leak.Look at the prop shaft.Then the drain plugs.Visually that's all you can do.You will need to pull the drive to check the front seals.The oil needs to be drained and the drive pressure tested.This needs to be done at a dealer or by someone who knows Cobra drives.Not filling this drive correctly will ruin it.So read, read, read.J
