My moter wants to die when I give it throttle under a load. When I pump the throttle as if you would warming up a weed eater it runs but if I try to give it hard throttle from idle it dies... Any Ideas?

Re: Yamaha 130 2 stroke

I have had problems at times in the past with the carbs on my 93 Yamm 115 that Rodbolt has helped me out with long distance.

I find that lack of use is a killer with 2 strokes and leaving fuel in the carbs causes dramas as it dries out and leaves residue. I give mine a carb clean every 2 years or so and the other day replaced (for the first time since new) the whole fuel pump as a complete unit and the inline oil filter. The thing runs like a new one. I love it.

Cheers

Thanks again Rod for your continued help on this forum.

I tried squeezing the primer ball while we where going which didnt have any affect...doesnt that mean the fuel pump is ok?

Re: Yamaha 130 2 stroke

possibly, possibly not. they are maint items and not supposed to be run till they blow the engine.
if the diaphram gets weak or a check valve fails it can run lean causing piston detonation.
if the diaphram blows on an oil injected version a cylinder floods with raw gas causing a lean oil/fuel ratio that tends to let the connecting rod escape the block.
all for a 50 dollar pump that is simple to replace every 3 or 4 years.
so firts test compression, test spark, fix fuel systems.
can ya post a full model number so we get a better idea of which 130 we are dealing with?

I believe it is the 130ETXG the number plate is pretty scratched up but I'm pretty sure that is what it says.

Re: Yamaha 130 2 stroke

do a forum search on a home made spark tester.
do a spark and compression test. spark MUST jump a 7/16ths gap.
if both pass clean the fuel lines with a rag or a q tip on a string soaked in carb or combustion chamber cleaner, replace the pump and remove dissasemble and clean the carbs.
typically if the needles are not damaged all you will need is bowl gaskets.
DO NOT remove those 1/2 brass plugs on the top aft of the carbs.
you may need the red orings for the main jets depending on carb model.
you may need carb to manifold gaskets if the originals are damaged.
its a 1988 130.

Re: Yamaha 130 2 stroke

I'll check the compression but once I got it going it ran great. It's on a 18.5' Winner and I had it up to 41 mph on my gps so I'm pretty sure it was runnning on all cylinders. It has 4 plugs so I was going to go ahead and replace those since I don't know how old they are, but I will check spark too.

Hi I saw this old post . Why not remove the brass plug ?
Do I need to raplace the red o-ring, when it looked good ?

I have done it on my carbs when I cleaned them, but the engine runs like crap.

I have tested
-compression ( equal on all cylinders
-cleaned the carbs
-new fuel pump
-new plugs

I have probleme starting the engine, I have to spray "start gas" into the carbs, and use choke, and lifte the trottle a bit.
Then I can get it run, but it stalls, and run rough.
Runs better on high rpm.
I do not think it fires on the lowest cylinder at idle.
Could it be the lower seal under the power head leaking ?

Thanks a lot, Vegard
