I have purchased a G3 175 FS last April 2010. It is a 2007 hull that was a dealer demo. It has a 2010 150 yamaha 4S SS prop. Very nice boat layout for the walleye fisherman. When I first ran the boat I noticed that the prop would lose bite turning. I tried several different trim positions with no luck. I also noticed the spray was forward of the windshield. Even trimmed all the way down the spray was even with the windshield. Dealer had it for two weeks and could not figure it out. They are sending it back to G3 for them to look at it. Has anyone ever had this experience with G3 or any other boat? Is it possible it has a hook somewhere in the hull or transom? If so can that be repaired??? Any advice would be great!

Re: Advice needed

Is there anyone out there who has ever had to send a boat back to the factory for repair?

Re: Advice needed

Had the factory come and look at our boat and then give us a new one, but never take one back for repairs. Back in the mid 70's we didn't like the way our Reinell cuddy would (or I should say wouldn't) come on plane. No matter what we did, trim tabs, trimming of engine, etc. Nothing worked, except EVERYONE would have to go to the cabin. Once on plane it was fine, but getting there was near impossible.

Factory came and looked at it and felt the pad was built wrong. Gave us an upgrade on the boat and took the old one with them.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it seems odd they would take it back to the factory. It must be a bigger issue than they (dealer)are leading on. Do you think if it is structural that they actually try to repair it?

Either way, I think that it's a good sign that they took it. You are getting the run-around and there is obviously a problem or they would have told you not to worry. If I were in your position, I would keep in good communication with them so that they know you are actively managing the situation. Good luck.

If it went back to the factory and just not to the dealer i bet they replace it.
It would cost them more to try and repair a hook in the hull or similar problem.

Thank you all for the reply, I finally got a contact person from G3, so I hope to get insight on what is going on. If it is a keel issue they would have to tear it down to the the base structure right???

If it's the model I'm thinking of, it's an aluminum hull. Not much they could do to fix it with out major work. My bet is they will either replace it, or come back to you saying they couldn't find anything wrong. Good luck with it and let us know how it works out.

DHJ, it is aluminum deep V 17' 5" fish and ski from G3. I will post how it turns out. I can't find much about a plowing issue with this boat on the internet. I did find a post about a G3 185 FS. Slightly larger boat and a bit wider beam, had same issue and had boat replaced. I guess I would rather have it replaced than tore appart and rebuilt???

I am sure they will treat you right, but stay in touch with them and document everything just in case. You can usually attract more flies with honey, so be cordual and appreciative. You might find yourself the owner of a year newer boat with added gingerbread to cover your aggrevation. But as long as you get the boat, or an equal boat back in good running order, that is really all you should want ... anything over that is gravy.

Performance-plowing

Adjusted bottom lip where hull bottom meets transom. Before adjustment boat ran 5800 RPMs, 50.5 MPH, full trim, and spray was at the driver or right behind the driver with driver only in boat, livewells empty and 3 batteries in the boat. After adjustment was made with the same load & just the driver we got 6000 RPMs, 51.4 MPH, full trim and the spray was out the back of the boat. With 2 people in the boat after the adjustment was made we got 5900 RPMs, 49.3 MPH, full trim and the spray was out the back of the boat.

This is from G3 and what they did to my boat. Does anyone know what adjusting the bottom lip is???

I guess they call it peening, has anyone had any experience wit hthis???

Re: Advice needed

I guess peening is an excepted practice in the industry, but still not clear if the added metal or not???
