I have a 1978 Evinrude 175 V6 It has a problem starting in that it wont start with the prop in the water. After i get it started it runs great for a few minutes at WOT then starts to chug really bad until it finally gets off plane then i cant get it back on plane until I let it sit for a bit and restart. Any Ideas?

Please do a compression test and then come back with result.

When the engine starts to run badly, check all 6 plugwires for spark. An inductive timing light will show you the quality of spark when the engine is running. Best to check the spark when the engine is under load, like idling at the dock in gear. If the engine has solid spark on all 6 wires when the engine is fully warmed up, then look into the fuel system. I concur, do a compression test before you put any $ into the engine.
