carolina skiff, water running around gunnel hitting motor

I have 2002 carolina skiff v series with a flat bottom. Has a center console and a 40hp merc. When on a plane water is hitting sides(gunnels) of the boat and shooting around hitting the motor on both sides. Any Idea why?

I called carolina skiff today. They were very helpfull. I was told it might be running too deep when on a plane and to try a pair of trim tabs. It doesnt seem to be to deep in the water so I am installing small tabs of aluminum under the rear gunnels to deflect the water down. That I can try for free.

try slowing down a little or have some one sit up front.
