as the title says... can i use my boat wash soap to wash my truck with.... it is Seasense bio boat wash

I dont have any regular car soap and dont want to buy anything else if i dont have to

Truck or boat I have used dawn dish soap, soap is soap:).

Soap is soap for the most part, but Dawn (actually most dish soaps) shorten the life of your wax job. Most car wash soaps and boat soaps are more mild.

* this has been learned by personal experience... but I'm sure someone will want proof, a bar graph, a MSDS sheet, and various links and quotes...:D

Next time I need to clean if I do not have right soap then I guess I will leave dirty not. Soap is soap and if you are worried about the wax rewax only thats a little extra time.:rolleyes: Not that big of a deal but that might be just me....:)

Dude... waxing a car is an 8-10 hour deal for me. I start with pressure washing the chassis, hand washing the paint, dewax it with a chemical, another hand wash to clean the chemical off, clay bar treatment, buffing a cleaning wax into the paint, then buffing a glaze/polish after that. And then I rinse the vehicle and dry it to remove the dust.

So yes, I use a mild soap when I wash. ;) I know most people don't keep them as clean as myself. :)

On the other hand {dont wanna be disrespectful, but} Dishwashing soap has more grease/oil cutters, and will tend to deplete/cut the natural oils in your paint faster... Fade ...... Its a bit to harsh IMHO !!:rolleyes:

imho, soap isn't soap. i used to use dawn. i use dawn for everything. it's a great soap, grease displacing even. i seemed to have to wax my boat often. 3 times a year? i switched to a a boat soap. i now wax once a year. i was out monday, got my boat soaked from white caps. it was still beading in many places. top deck included. the wax job is from last fall. the bottom still beads when i wash it. dawn would waste my wax job.

that's just what i've found in the few years i've had of wash and waxing.
be it noted, i'm lazy if possible. waxing the boat is not my favorite thing to do to my boat (labor intensive as i hand wax), granted, the efforts are well rewarded.. but if boat soap seems to reduces my labor by 2/3's. i'm up for it..

as for the truck. why not. seems less abrasive (wax removing) than dawn..... + for 'my truck, soap is soap, just not so for my boat... ;)

Well I guess the dawn will degrease it for you so you can skip that part.:) Just kidding it does work for me but not for all. I was just throwing out what I do might not be right for others but works for me.:)

Dawn is a detergent. Makes a great wax remover.

FWIW: Do yourself a favor, don't use a boat wash and wax on your car. I washed my Honda Accord with some when it was 5 days old. Streaking wasn't the word for it.
