lowe semi v row boat

Hello,

I am new to this forum and was seeking advise on a project i would like to take on. i own a 12" lowe row boat and i was seeking advise on the removal of the bench's currently in that boat.

How would i go about doing that? Would i just have to pop out the rivets?

I would like to remove all the bench's because I have a rodent nesting problem with them. Im really tired of everytime i use the boat, i have mice coming out all over.

I tried everything, moth balls, banging the boat before using it, etc

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

What are you going to replace them with? If they are riveted and not spot welded they will come right out. Spot welds are a little harder to mess with.

Nice looking boat. Maybe you just want to get a nice tight cover and a snake!

I would like to insert two pivot seats that can be removable. This boat is getting mice nesting because it has to be stored outdoors at the reservior (NY DEP regulation).

Or i was thinking about just replacing them with a solid wood slab. Instead of that aluminum/foam ones i have now. Im figuring if i remove the place the mice can hide, i can eliminate the problem.

I looked at the boat and i dont see any spot welds. These benches seem to just be held in place by three rivets on the top and two on each side. I am not sure how the top bench is attached to the bottom half.

Pretty sure the seats are structural also. You could remove them and fill the nooks and crannies with foam to prevent habitat for the live bait and reinstall them. . Swivel seats can mount on top of them.

Hello John..and welcome to Iboats..

I personally not get Rid of the seats. They have floatation and is part of the integrity of the boat in a swamp situation..

Remove the seats and All signs of rodent ( smell..urine..poo..etc ) from the boat. You may have to dig and refoam your seats to get the traces of rodent out or more could come. Reinstall

When you store..make sure its covered Tightly.. use/pack any holes with steel wool.

You could try a rubber snake inside while storing.

Its a rowboat..I dont think 2 mounted swivel seats would fit you well in there :)

thanks for the input, would you have any idea how I would go about removing the benches and mouse proofing them? Also reinstalling the same bench, would i just have to put new rivets in the same holes?
