The motor was running good, until the boat came off the trailer.
3 years later, I'm trying to get it running again.
Replaced the steering bracket which broke when it came off the trailer, and
put it back together, but now it will not idle, it runs, but you have to work the throttle arm with the cover off to maintain an idle.
Looking at the advance plate, the 2 witness marks that I assume to designate "idle" and "shift" positions are about an inch away from the throttle roller, to the left. If you turn the throttle all the way to the shift stop, you are still not on the first mark.
From looking at the parts, there looks to be no way the brass stop attached to the advance plate could have changed position to put the idle mark so far off.
When the motor is shifted to forward or reverse, the throttle roller will end up on the end of the throttle cam where it should be.
The throttle stop linkage appears to be touching lower on the shift stop arm from where it has been ground flat from the factory.
I am at a total loss to figure this out, because you can't screw in the idle adjust screw far enough to make it idle because the tension spring is fully compressed.
HELP!!!
