89 mercury XR4 black max 150 - what is the plastic container on top?

hello, i was looking at my 89 mercury XR4 black max 150 and was wondering what the top plastic container was? it didnt have oil in it but everythings been fine... but it has a cap like something should go in there... not sure... dont have a manual....its on the very top././its a half gallon plastic container...looks llike for 2 stoke oil? ive always put my oil in the thing near the battery....anything helps...thanks...

that is for oil also.Is this motor new to you?While running,does the oil in reservoir on boat go down in level normally?I am just wondering if PO unhooked the oil injection.I would fill it till you find out.

yes its new to me.....the oil in reservoir thats under the back seat near the battery goes down....ive ran this boat about 5 times...approx 10 hrs total and i havent ever put any oil in the top part.....no problems so far....i'll defanitly put some 2stoke in there just in case...thank you....but yeah i guess its hard to tell if its hooked up or not.....
