New tank, new sending unit, new gauge, new wiring in between sender and gauge. Have the tank grounded to a ground bus, verified good ground. Good ground between sender and tank. Have black wire going to the "G" terminal, there is also an additional ground from the instrument panel going to "G", have a good ground at the gauge. Have pink wire going to "S" terminal and purple ignition wire going to "I", and it has power.
Sender wires read 123 ohms between them which should be right on with the amount of fuel in the tank. Have tried the original gauge that was in the boat (unknown condition, this boat is new to me) and it pegged to empty when key turns on. Got a new gauge, hooked it up as above, and it does nothing when powered on. Got yet another new gauge, and it does nothing when powered on.
Acquired another sending unit known to work properly, hooked it up outside of the boat with a 12v power source going to "I". Hooked it up to all three above mentioned gauges. Moved sender up and down by hand, resistance goes from about 33 at full to 244 or so on empty. Original gauge pegs on empty as soon as it has power. Other two new gauges do nothing, no movement.
Looked at all wiring diagrams I could find, here and elsewhere, talked to tank builder (best in town) who provided the gauges and sending units, he said it sounds like I have it wired correctly, yet it does not work. Please help this is driving me nuts! I have a wide array of photos of everything if it will help...
