Hi guys,
I just rebuilt the power head of my '95 Evinrude 90 V4 Cross flow. I failed two cylinders (1 & 3) due to overheating. I also replaced the T-stats, and put a new water pump in.
With the boat in the back yard on muffs with good water pressure, I started the engine and it started on the first crank (whew!), but I shut it down after about 5 seconds because I didn't see water out of the tell tale. I then figured I needed to wait longer, so I restarted and waited for ~10 seconds (this felt like a lifetime with the rebuilt powerhead), still no water. I know that I'm being conservative, but I put a lot of time into the rebuild.
My main question is how long should it take for water to come out of the tell tale and also, how long could I run the engine without cooling before damaging the rings etc.?
Thanks for your help.
Vin
