I need to replace the switch box to get my 1975 merc 850 running but I'm at a loss at which replacement would be best.

The CDI switch boxes cost ~225 and have the ignition coil built in. I'm not sure how reliable such a cheap replacement would be and I'm curious to hear what others say about using CDI as a replacement. Any issues? Ease of install and what not.

The Sierra and OEM replacements seem to be few and far in between and cost double that of the CDI boxes but I wonder if they're more reliable or are easier to hook up.

Thanks in advance.
