I have a 1986 Merc 115 6 cyl. It is running very rough and checking at an idle it looks like I have no spark in #1, #3, and #5. Could this be a stator problem? #1 and #3 use the same switchbox but not #5, I am puzzled.
1, 3, and 5 use one switchbox, 2,4, and 6 use the other. Perhaps some wires got mixed up. As for the lack of spark... most likely a switchbox is the culprit, with a lesser chance of the trigger being the demon.
Thanks, I did some research tonite and I think you are right. I switched over the leads from the switch boxes and determined it is the upper switch box. I did'nt realise that the switch boxes were 1,3,5 and 2,4,6.
if you still have problems after fixing the wiring, could be switch boxes, trigger or stator. go to here http://www.cdielectronics.com/downloads/troubleshooting guide/
and find your engine and learn how to test each part. You will need a DVA tester.
