If your buting this rig I would ask how long has it done this? and if you do buy it the 1st thing is to try all the most inexspensive troubleshooting 1st test thermostat or buy a new one, test and or replace the temp sending unit, run it on muffs and make sure your getting water to the circulating pump, if not pull lower leg and rebuild the impellar with the complete kit, re-check to make sure that your getting water to the circulating pump, after that do a compression test on all cylinders should be @ or prefferably above 130psi and then if all above is good take it for a sea trial. If @ that point you are satisfiied with the rigs performance it's your choice @ that point perform a complete tune up and get a merc service manual and read it cover to cover. Good luck!!!!!!!

beep on key-up is normal - it lets the operator know the warning system is operational

oil pressure and temp are the two main causes for warning tones, if this is efi then there are more failures that will give warnign tones

sounds like you got the problem figured out - overheat

replace the impeller/water pump assy (don't know what you are working on) but if the pump is in the drive it is either a mercruiser or OMC cobra

don't mess with the t-stat unless the impeller/pump doesn't solve your overheat issues
