us marine model 507a64/50 hp info?

i am trying to figure out, if this motor has points? or cdi?
i cant get the darn flywheel off. my mechanic is telling me i have no spark on the top cylinder and a bad coil.
i have the manual, but it is a little vauge, so im hoping someone out there can confirm on the points,
what year is the motor? i cant find much info

From what I can find from the #s you gave.It's a points system.
Fill out the profile and always post the year.
A picture says a lot on these motors. A pic of the coils will tell right away.
2 coils and a CDI unit= no points.J

i will post a picture later tonight. the boat is a 1987. i have two coils, but with out getting the stupid flywheel off, i cant tell

Those kind of coils go with a points ignition.
Get a 10in.3 jaw puller.Lots of auto parts stores will loan you one.You can use a smaller one with the 1/4 20 bolts.I like the big one.Loosen the nut,don't take it all the way off.
Install the puller and tighten the bolt down as hard as you can.If you have an impact gun tighten it down a lot.Then use a hammer on the end of the bolt.BE CAREFULL!!!! IT can and will BITE you.Wear safety glasses too.J

than ks for the tip. seems i have a trigger thats out. i want to make sure its a part number 136-8029-2 before i buy it. want to pull the flywheel. i dont have spark in on number one cylinder. not sure if its points or the trigger.
