Do Cobras use similar gear ratios to Mercruiser? Reason I ask is my brother got a used boat (no trailer) with a chewed prop and we are trying to guess what pitch to get til we have the prop off the boat for a look.
It's a 1988 4 Winns Sundowner 205 with a 4.3 engine. I believe it's the 205 HP version, but I will check.
He has run it three times now and it acts fine, if a little thirsty. It revs too high at WOT-4900, so it's either prop shape or wrong pitch or both. That is what we are trying to work out.
How do you pull the prop on a Cobra? We are planning a hull scrubbing trip to a sandy spot tomorrow, would like to get a look at it then. I guess if they are a real PITA to remove we could get a set of goggles or a mask to have a look. That might be smarter til the new prop is in hand.
Suggestions and input welcome.
You don't have to remind me to do the form, I promise I will!

Re: Cobra drives

Nothing special, a cotter pin, retainer, and prop nut, then prop should just slip off the splined shaft.
I think a 17 maybe even a 19 at the most for a 4.3 pushing a boat that size.
