Hello All
I really enjoy reading all the different topics, and alot of helpfull advice,
Keep up the good work guys!

My questions is about proper tongue weight, and how to go about trying to
figure it out.

Had to get a different trailor for my 18 ft Xpress bass boat, (alum hull)
its laid out like skeeter w/ rod boxs live wells casting decks ect. Rated for
a 130hp, but several yrs ago added jack plate and 150v yam.

The boat trailor is just slightly shorter than original and tongue lenght is shorted.

I was planning on putting new wood/carpet and hanging over back of trailor
6 inches, and boat will be flush to wood runners. Boat should fit alot better
like that.

But my question is, what about the tongue weight, if its too heavy at tongue
or even to light at tongue, boat would want to pull poorly, correct, even sway
or want to lope while pulling, right?

Please give me a little feed-back when ya'll get time, any or all will be
greatful.

And ya'll keep up the good work with this forum, VERY HELPFULL!!!!!

Thanks alot
Rob

Re: Trailor Question?

Tounge weight should be 10 to 15% of total trailer weight.
To do it right you need to weigh the trailer/boat combo and then weigh the tounge weight only. You can do this at the jack and be close enough.
Do not exceed the rated weight of the lowest rated part of the hitch.

To heavy of tounge can cause the trl to sway, to lite can cause a jackknife.
