Sounds like you could use a new Merc quick connect. If gas leaks out, air will leak in, which is bad. Usually the motor wiring harness on those old motors is about shot. Replacements are avail on the web.

It seems to be just a few of the wire on the bottom..All the wires on the top can bend and move freely...but if i bend one on the bottom the plastic coating on the wire breaks right off!, and exposes the metal wiring:eek: I cant see any type of identification on the wires and dont really want to buy a whole new harness when i just have to replace a few of them...any ideas??

If your "handy" you can splice and repair wires. I would suggest using the same color code as existing for possible later troubleshooting. Make sure you use shrink tube to seal splices. On those old motors the wiring tends to NOT take solder very well, make sure you use a good paste (cleaner) before attempting to solder.
