compression check and water pump

I would like to know if you should have the water hose hooked up to the motor when checking compression. I realize the motor won't overheat but what about the water pump? 1994 200 HP Evinrude

No, you don't need to hook it up to the hose for a compression test. Remove all the spark plugs for the test.
