1999 Johnson 25HP 3 Cyl Model J25R3EEM, I am having trouble with this motor, at first I could take it out it would start first crank, take off and all of the sudden it will die. I would let it sit awhile then it would crank. Now I cant get it to start. I have no fire. I purchased a new power pack because a mechanic told me it was out. However I still have the same problem. I do no have a service manual, can some one copy and email me the ignition trouble shooting section. Or tell me exactly how to trouble shoot it. It would be greatly appreciated.

Go to autozone and get a $12 spark gap tester, set the gap to 3/8th inch and test each cylinder for strong blue spark.
If it passes the test, then its very likely fuel delivery related.

Try spraying fuel into the throats and see if that keeps it running.
If yes, its definately fuel,

If you can keep it running by hitting the choke the carbs are clogged up.
If pumping the bulb is required to keep it running the pump is weak.

Thats the general troubleshootin routine.
IF carbs need cleaning get new kits and rebuild them, see the top secret files for carbs. Or follow the FAQ link in my signature.

The motor has no spark at all, Im thinking maybe its electrical. Can you advise exactly how to test?
