hello.. i have a mercury 115hp outboard that i got from my father.. he didn't have it in the water last year and didn't plan on putting it in this year either so he gave it to me.. i took it out a few times and it started running rough after the 3rd time.. after a little research, i find out that it is only running on 2 cylinders and have looked around for possible solutions.. first i tried seeing if all 4 cyl were firing.. they all were so i took the plugs off one at a time and started the boat to see if it ran differently. when i removed the top 2 it cut off.. when i pulled the 3rd wire from the top, nothing happened.. and the same for the 4th.. i removed both 3 and 4 from the top and it ran but ran like it did with all 4 wires still on.. i read that it might be the coils.. so i swapped a few around and had the same problem.. another problem is the 2nd one from the top has super spark (screwdriver test) and all other 3 don't.. and when i put the screwdriver in the 2nd from the top wire and put it near the 1st or 3rd spark plug, it doesn't have that same spark.. i read a few posts where guys replaced their coils and it ran great or switch box and it ran great... i was going to do that because i feel as though the coils at least are part of a normal tune-up, but then i thought about the gas not getting in the cylinders.. so i squirt a little gas mix in the cylinder and crank it with only that wire on and the other 3 off and it starts up... same with the other bad one.. i start looking at the carbs and notice the gas line starts at the top one and goes from one to the next with some type of switch between the 2nd and 3rd carb.. could this switch be faulty and stopping the gas from getting to the bottom 2 carbs?? i added fuel treatment prior to taking it out the 1st and 3rd time by the way... any help is greatly appreciated... thanx
