I recently purchased a bass boat with a Johnson 40HP VRO motor. Where can I get a manuel for this motor. Also, my dealer said oil needed to be added to the fuel tank but I discovered an oil reserveunder the transom by the battery.Does this motor add it's own oil?

Outboardbooks.com will have the OEM service manual for your engine, will have to have the model number to get the correct manual. Unless someone has disabled the VRO, there is no need to mix the oil in the gas. I would contact the seller and verify the VRO is connected, just to make sure.

Is the oil tank connected to your motor?

Agree, just because the tank is there does not mean it is connected.
What is in the gas tank ?? is it mixed fuel or not ??
If in doubt add oil to the fuel as well. Better double oil than none at all till you know for sure.

Ask PO or take to a dealer/marine mechanic to have it verified. Far less expensive than a new power head.

If it is connected and working, it is oil injected. Oil is added to the tank. There is a warning buzzer in the control box to warn you that the oil level is low.
